
The NAACP Education is charged to:
1. Empower students, parents and local advocates to assess our local schools, school districts, colleges and universities, and state educational agencies through data collection and the production of substantive research on key educational equity issues.
2. Empower students, parents and local advocates to assist their local schools, school districts, colleges and universities and state educational agencies through training, and collaborative technical assistance designed to prevent discrimination and promote inclusion in educational programs and services.
3. Empower students, parents and local advocates to advance educational excellence through programmatic support and development based on sound research, strategic planning and strong collaborative networks.
NAACP Service Scholarship
The focus of the scholarship is for the average African-
American student who is trying for a significant
upgrade/change in his/her life. One who is committed to
returning services back to the community.
All qualified students may (re) apply annually for the
scholarship after 1st time applicants are considered (even if
the student has previously won the award).
The properly completed application package will consist of
the following MANDITORY items:

An application must be completed in its entirety and submitted via email or postmarked by April 30 th.

An essay not less than 150- 200 words regarding “why I should receive the NAACP Service Scholarship." Include all data below in the essay:
Name, date, of birth, high school presently attending,
graduation date, the institution you plan to attend, planned
course of study or major, academic honors, extra-curricular
participation, athletic accomplishments, community
volunteerism, special talents, interest and hobbies, emails.

Must have parents name, address and a working phonenumber.

One letter of recommendation.

Attach an official school transcript and the recommendation
from the school official to this application.
The committee will review all applications and select
awardees, after which all winners will be notified.. The
scholarships will be presented to the winners after they have
submitted proof of their graduation from high school or
enrollment in some form of post-secondary educational
institution.
Criteria for Scholarship
A. Have a scholastic average of at least C+ (2.5 GPA)
B. Be matriculating towards a high school diploma or its
equivalent.
C. Has demonstrated leadership, volunteerism, services to
the community in his/her life.
D. Use the scholarship at an accredited college, university
or other post-secondary professional or technical
training institution
E. Be an African American resident within the
geographical area covered by the Elmira-Corning branch
of the NAACP.
Goal 8.1: Advocate for effective, accountable and accessible public school systems, and for adequate and equitable school funding.
Goal 8.2: Examine a broad range of educational structures and practices with the objective of advocating for educational innovations that improve educational equity and student achievement.
Goal 8.3: Promote affirmative action and funding equity in higher education.
Goal 8.4: Advocate for the fulfillment of the nation’s commitment to quality, integrated public education as set forth in the landmark decision of Brown v. The Board of Education.
Now more than ever, the NAACP must stand poised to address the pertinent education issues affecting our children across the nation. Through a renewed emphasis on strong education advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal level, the NAACP seeks to rekindle the fire for excellence in education knowing that the success of our children depends on our organization.
